The Greene County softball team went 3-7 in the first two weeks of their season.
On Monday, May 23, the Rams traveled to Saydel High School to face the Eagles, and took home a 3-2 loss. Greene County was the first to score a run, but the Eagles responded with three of their own.
Singles came from Olivia Shannon, Alexa Peters, Grace Hardaway and Emma Hoyle, with Hoyle hitting a double as well. Hoyle also served as pitcher for the night, throwing the ball 90 times, issuing three hits, one walk, and seven strikeouts.
On Friday, May 27, the girls faced South Hamilton, seeing another loss, this time 7-1. Neither team saw any points until the Hawks sent a runner to home in the bottom of the fifth inning. In the sixth, Olivia Shannon scored one run for Greene County, but it wasn’t enough to get ahead of the six from the Hawks.
On the field, the Rams had 18 putouts, with pitcher Hoyle allowing four hits and six walks, striking out 10.
Greene County participated in the Ogden tournament on May 28, with the first of three games being a win for the Rams. The Rams beat the Boone Toreadors 7-4, with the help of doubles by Emma Stream and Becca Anderson, each able to get runs across the plate. The Rams had 19 putouts and Hoyle continued her streak on the pitching mound, yielding three hits, one walk and eight strikeouts.
The next two games of the tournament were losses for the Rams, with a 12-0 loss to Gilbert and 3-2 against Carroll.
On Wednesday, June 1, the Rams traveled to PCM High School where they lost 11-0 to the Mustangs. The Rams had four hits in the night, including two doubles, one each by Hoyle and Anderson. There were 15 putouts and five errors on the field. Hoyle allowed six hits and nine walks, with six strikeouts.
The next game for the Rams was on Thursday at home against Roland-Story, resulting in a 5-2 loss for the Rams. The girls had nine singles out of 31 at bats. On the field, the girls made 21 putouts and no errors, Hoyle pitching 160 times with eight hits, six walks and 11 strikeouts.
Greene County picked up an 8-1 win on Friday against West Marshall at home. Big hits for the night came from Hoyle, Anderson and Paige Teeple,s who each hit doubles. The Rams battled on the field with 22 putouts and only one error. Hoyle was on the mound, pitching 107 times resulting in three hits, three walks, one hit batter and 14 strikeouts.
The girls took part in a tournament on Saturday at Bondurant-Farrar. The first game was a 9-1 loss for the Rams against the host team. The Rams won the second game 12-7 against the Pleasantville Trojans. Carmyn Paup and Teeples hit doubles. Hoyle pitched with seven hits and six strikeouts.
